I was in high school (twelve years ago) when Finding Nemo was released. It was one of my favorite Pixar movies. After I had my daughter, Haley, it was one of my go to movies for her to watch. So after all those years, you can only imagine how excited I was (and my kids too!) when I heard that there was going to be a Finding Dory!! Before I even watched any previews, I KNEW it was going to the bomb and my kids and I were not disappointed!
Finding Dory picks up a year after Finding Nemo left off. I really liked that there was several of the original characters throughout this movie mixed in with some brand new super cute and funny characters! After having a small flashback to Dory’s childhood, she frantically sets out to find her family and piece her life together. Marlin and Nemo are Dory’s sidekicks throughout the movie! Which is pretty awesome to see father and son interact with Dory! Dory takes off on a life-changing quest to find her parents with help from Hank, a cantankerous octopus, Bailey, a beluga whale who’s convinced his biological sonar skills are on the fritz, and Destiny, a nearsighted whale shark. Finding Dory is an epic undersea adventure filled with imagination, humor and heart.
There are some similarities that link Finding Dory to the original. Finding Dory is about finding a lost loved one but focuses around overcoming the odds while celebrating the differences and disabilities of each other. It’s main theme is to have faith that things will work out for you in the end. You just have to “keep swimming”. Nearly every character throughout the film has some sort of disability and each character overcomes the obstacles their disability causes them!
My kids and I love Finding Dory and so can you! Finding Dory releases on Digital HD on October 25 and Blu-ray on November 15! Get ready to pick up your copy to stuff in those stockings!
